I couldn’t find either of the colors I wanted in store. However, when I saw “Fifties Aqua”, I had an even better alternative! For my first time, I’m happy! This picture was my fourth and final attempt. Not having an airbrush makes not overdoing it hard.

Question I have now is whether or not to use clearcoat?

it’s glossy, I wouldn’t add more.

That’s just the basecoat without clear. Will the paint hold up on it’s own?

Is there’s a semi-gloss clear that’ll work to protect it without giving it any more shine?

I’ll have to look and see. My concern is with whether or not the clear will hide or cover up the features and lines of the car, on top of the basecoat.

Check on the type of decals you have. Many decals require having clear coat sprayed over them to ensure they don’ t come off or get damaged, this is very common on bicycles at least.

The testors paint can be iffy. The same properties that make it possible to lay down light coats make it a bit more fragile. Their clear is a thin formula too, so you shouldn't have too much issue with detail loss.

Well.....My anxiety over not achieving the perfect coverage I desired led me to erase what you see above (much to my later dismay) and start over. Model Master paint isn’t what I’m use to and it’s very running. While the top coverage was spot on from the angle above, the sides had even runs and while lightly covered, metal could still be seen so I tried fixing it and messed it up.

As such, I’ve a new idea using paint I’m use to, to test out tomorrow. Thank goodness I’ve got cans of brake cleaner.

Do you plan on adding decals? If so, they should really be clearcoated.

Future floor polish as top coat? That’s a thin glossy  acrylic.

That’s 1:64 scale. Hot Wheels/Matchbox size.
